FCWS Celebrates Jacksonville@200

The First Coast Wind Symphony performed a thrilling concert to commemorate the founding of the City of Jacksonville, Florida on June 15, 1822. The FCWS partnered with the Jacksonville Historical Society to celebrate and elevate Jacksonville's bicentennial year in a concert of festive music.
Musical highlights included Marche Caprice by British composer Frederick Delius (who lived in Jacksonville in the 1800s) and James Weldon Johnson's Lift Every Voice and Sing (who was principal of the segregated Stanton School in Jacksonville in 1900).
Two Jacksonville composers wrote new music for the occasion: The Pride of Aliquippa (2021) by Bill Boston, and a transcription by Bob Moore of his Aurelia (2012, revised 2021). Former FCWS conductor Dale Blackwell's The Florida Times-Union March (2002) was also performed.
